The handball tournament known as the Seventh Handball World Cup was probably the ninth such event attempted, but only the fifth or sixth to be successfully completed. Sarzonia hosted a field of 16 teams, tied for the largest World Cup ever, and The Babbage Islands emerged as champions with an 8-1 record.
The 16 teams were divided into four groups of four, and each group played a double-round-robin of six games per team. The four group champions were seeded #1-#4, and the next five teams overall were seeded #5-9 in a single-elimination knockout stage.
